STORIES FROM THE ÔHKOMIMÂWAK II
Stories From The Ôhkomimâwak II calendar is the second publication in a series that presents teachings from grandmothers and female traditional Elders residing mainly in the Edmonton, Alberta area.
The calendar celebrates the accomplishments of Indigenous women in a historical timeline, and through centering their perspectives in the publication itself. It is meant to lift up and inspire these women's spirits, and their relations.
A portion of the profit from every calendar sold goes to the Kohkom Kisewatisiwin Society. The project itself is an opportunity for women in our communities to raise money using something that has intrinsic meaning to them. Once calendar creation/production costs are covered, the profit from calendars sold goes to the Kohkom Kisewatisiwin Society. When the calendars are sold for $25 calendar, approximately $10 goes directly to the Kohkom Kisewatisiwin Society. In addition, individual women from the group or the kohkoms' communities can sell the calendar and keep $6 themselves. Other monies cover the costs of printing, accounting and administration.
The project was launched in partnership with Elsie Paul, a Cree/Métis Elder who is a dedicated volunteer and community member. She and her friends at the Kohkom Kisewatisiwin Society are the reason this calendar exists. Without their encouragement, ideas, and willingness to share cultural information to be assembled in this form, it would not have come together.
It has been an honour for the Circle Teachings team to work alongside these women to make Elsie's vision a reality.
